This is a big one! One of the bestselling electric trikes in the United States is getting a serious upgrade — and it’s called the Lectric XP 2 Trike. Announced recently by Lectric eBike, this new model expands on everything riders loved about the original and introduces more power, more colors, and even a torque sensor in one of the versions.
Electric is releasing two versions of the XP 2 Trike: a 500W model shipping at the end of July, and a more powerful 750W version arriving in September. Both are packed with enhancements that are going to make a lot of riders — new and old — very happy.
A Familiar Frame, Reinvented
From the outside, the XP 2 Trike looks like a thoughtful evolution of the original. It now features a hydroformed frame that’s stiffer and more stable than the previous square-tube design.
It also introduces front fork suspension with 50mm of travel, delivering a much smoother ride, especially over uneven surfaces.
The updated design also includes a 9° stem angle, giving riders a more upright, relaxed position — ideal for long rides or those needing a more ergonomic stance.
500W vs. 750W: What’s the Difference?
The 500W version will be priced at $1,499, and comes with:
- 65Nm of torque
- 13Ah battery
- Top speed of 14 mph
- Three color options: Stratus White, Tempest Gray, and Glacier Blue
If you want more power and range, the 750W version coming in September might be worth the wait. At $1,799, it offers:
- 85Nm of torque
- 17.5Ah battery
- Torque sensor for smoother, more natural pedaling
- Top speed of 17 mph
- Three additional colors: Lavender Haze, Phoenix Red, and Dusk Blue
So yes — six total color options, a torque sensor, and extended battery range? That’s a big leap forward.
A removable battery design keeps things clean and simple, and with the external charging port, you can plug in without removing the battery. Charging takes 5–7 hours with the included 2-amp charger, or as little as 3 hours if you purchase the optional 5-amp fast charger.
Smarter Interface, Safer Learning Curve
One of the biggest usability upgrades comes in the form of the TFT color display, now standard on the XP 2 Trike. Riders can explore five ride modes — Eco, Tour, Sport, Sport+, and Turbo — and view real-time stats like speed, battery level, and trip distance. It’s a smarter, more interactive way to ride, and a welcome change from older black-and-white displays.
And if you haven’t been on a bike in a while? No worries. The XP Trike2 includes a power-limiting mode that caps your top speed at 5 mph in Eco and Tour settings. It’s perfect for easing into things until you’re ready to unlock the trike’s full capabilities.
Small Details, Big Difference
If you pre-order, Electric is throwing in some welcome accessories:
- A support seat (wider than standard)
- A suspension seat post
- A premium round headlight
They’ve also revised the parking brake system, which is supposed to be easier to use — especially helpful for those with mobility issues or those parking on slight slopes.
Etrikeco’s Take on the XP 2 Trike
The XP 2 feels like a natural evolution of a very popular product. Lectric didn’t try to reinvent anything here — and that’s probably for the best. Instead, they focused on rider comfort, smarter assist, and more choices.
The torque sensor on the 750W version stands out the most. It should make riding smoother and more responsive, especially when starting or climbing. The new suspension and upright geometry also show that Lectric is thinking beyond raw specs — they’re aiming to improve the everyday experience.
That said, there are a few trade-offs worth noting. The overall weight has gone up — the 500W version weighs 79 lbs without the battery, and the standard battery adds another 7 lbs.
Also, unlike what some buyers might expect, the front and rear baskets are not included by default. They’re available as separate accessories. While this might help Electric reduce shipping costs, it would’ve been nice to see at least a rear basket included out of the box, especially since cargo capacity is such a key reason why many people choose trikes in the first place.
Is it revolutionary? No. But for the price, it’s a strong and well-rounded update that makes the XP Trike even more beginner-friendly and comfortable for casual use.
The 500W version ships in late July, while the 750W version is expected in September.
